Day 8 - en los médicos clases de español.
Loteria!! That was the name of the learning game that we played in our medical Spanish class today. In English translation you would gravitate more towards the word, lottery, but this game is more like playing BINGO blackout, you have to cover all the squares in order to take the prize. The prize was Jose Cuervo Chocolates, Muy bien!! We each got a playing card with 16 squares that had names and pictures of internal and external parts of the body. Our maestro Virna called out the names and we would place an elbow noodle in the square if we had a match. Basically who ever filled the card first yelled out, “Loteria”, and was declared the winner. Okay, know need to keep everyone in suspense, Yes, I did when a round. It was a wonderful way to learn. I truly enjoy how enthusiastic the instructors are about teaching. You can feel the liveliness in their voices and through their lesson plan.
In cultura clase we learned about holidays celebrated in Mexico. We went over a list of twenty five different holidays which included: Dia de los muertos, Dia del trabaja, Dia de San Juan and Dia del Cartero. I found Dia del Cartero very interesting because in American culture we don’t tend to thank the garbage men and mail carriers for what they do. This holiday celebrates the postal carrier’s service. It is doce de Noviembre. On this day people though out the city give their postal carrier money or gifts.
Today after school the girls in my house and I got to experience something quite out of the ordinary for us. The gas man came!! The gas man brings gas to your house and fills up your tank. There were two guys, one manned the truck and looked after the meter on the truck while the other leaned an extended ladder to the roof, quickly climbed up the ladder, connected the hose to the outlet, pumped in the gas and then quickly came down. They were kind enough to let us get some photos. It was pretty neat because we don’t have this kind of service back in Las Vegas.
I have got This!!

                                                                   Men Hard At Work
                                                       We can help....It's No Problem
Our new friend the gas man (in the back) - my friends Larissa and Heather and my Family of        Guadalajara
One thing that I always have to remember with nursing is – Hard work pays off
Favorite Spanish sentence of the day – Abra la boca, saque la lengua, y diga: “Ah”. Muy Bien, Inhale, Exhale. – I chose this sentence because in medical Spanish class today we had to come up with a script using 8 different directional commands for a doctor/patient senerio. – Open your mouth, stick out your tongue and say Ah. Very good, inhale exhale.

  1. I am very confused! What is the gas for?? LOL, I guess this is different for us Americans! Is it their natural gas that they use for heat and cooking? I have never heard of this! Cool that you got to experience it though! I miss you girls, but glad you are learning lots!!

    1. Hola de Guadalajara. The gas is a natural gas used for heating purposes in the home. There is no central AC or heat, so I think the only things it is used for is heating the water heater, the stove/oven and possibly the dryer, if its gas. Thank you for the comments!!I Miss you!!
